Pre-Production: Potential equipment

I wanted to research some equipment before shoot day, so I was prepared when using the equipment on the day and no time was wasted learning.

For example, I think we will use a tripod and similarly I researched a tripod is a portable three-legged frame, used as a platform for supporting the weight and maintaining the stability of some other object. A tripod provides stability against downward forces and horizontal forces and movements about horizontal axes.

I learnt the use of a boom pole is a mic to capture audio from a group interview, crowd scenes or any situation where you need to gather professional audio quickly.

In addition to the boom pole, you'll need a shockmount and a shotgun mic. A shockmount is needed for the mic so that it stays steady on top of the pole and doesn't pick up sounds when the pole is moving around. And a wind muff is needed to keep out any wind noise.

For some of the shots we had in mind, we might be able to use. For instance, a crane shot is a shot taken by a camera on a crane or jib. The most obvious uses are to view the actors from above or to move up and away from them, a common way of ending a movie.

A camera dolly is a specialised piece of filmmaking and television production equipment designed to create smooth camera movements (cinematic techniques). The camera is mounted to the dolly and the camera operator and focus puller or camera assistant usually ride on the dolly to operate the camera.

Steadicam is a type of camera stabilizer against the operator's movement. It allows for a smooth shot, even when moving quickly over an uneven surface. The Steadicam was invented by cameraman Garrett Brown and was introduced in 1975.
