Pre-Production: Use of Sound

My group and I started thinking about sound today and we decided to use our original idea of using the sound of a gunshot coming closer and closer to him. We want the non-diegetic sound to communicate time is running out, so if we have the shots increasing by getting louder then the protagonist should soon realise. We could also similarly have the sounds of people reacting by screaming due to the gunshot.  We will record this ourselves later in production.

The gunshot is representing that the character is in one of many rooms and that the gunshot is killing people individually one from by one; so each room if being defeated.

Contrastingly, my group and I have come up with alternatives. For example, we could use diegetic sound of a voiceover of a man’s voice saying things to make the protagonist more stressed and to intimidate the actor by saying “No, that’s not the right key” or “Time’s running out!” with a patronising tone and manner. We will record this using ourselves.

We also began to look at some non-diegetic tense, instrumental music playing in the background throughout the sequence on a low pitch. However, after researching for music it came with difficulty in finding some so we may record our own sounds or ask someone to compose our own music for us.

We will add the sound later in post-production.
