Pre-Production: Importance of Scene Outline and Shot List

Scene Outline:

I learnt writers often debate whether to include the outline or not. However, I think it is an important element to include. For example, a scene outline is simply arranging the structure of your story’s elements into a specific chronological order.

From having a scene outline, I understood it usually engages people to get ready for the next scene in an organised order so no time is wasted. A scene outline also allows everyone on set to have a clear idea of what’s happening next.

Shot List:

I understand it is a crucial element to include a shot list when creating a film as it is a document that lists and describes the shots that need to be filmed during principle photography.
I learnt there isn't a specific set format for a shot list but I discovered each row should consist of the following elements and be taken into important consideration:

SHOT NO
SCENE DESCRIPTION
PROPS
COSTUMES
EQUIPMENT
CAMERA ANGLE

The purpose of a scene outline and a shot list is to make sure that every part of the script is assigned a shot. It prevents people of set getting confused and allows successful organisation.
