Pitch to Luke

Overall, Luke gave us a heads up and allowed us to move further into developing our concept; this was a major relief and a huge positive. He appreciated the use of song and was fond of the cast chosen; similarly he mentioned the concept works successful with the song. However, concerns were raised about lack of elements during the video. For example, I understand the less stuff included, the less duration and footage gained.

Firstly, Luke appreciated the first element of the video, as he was fond of the interesting idea of colour, smoke, dancers and a main singer. He also liked the concept of two dancers in a grey subject of white smoke. However, he warned us this location could become repetitive and tiresome, as a studio is the first initial location everyone runs to, but he had hopes we could creatively develop it, so it wasn’t just a black studio.

Similarly, he clearly stated when using a drummer on a single drum it can become tedious for viewers, as there’s not enough to play with. He positively suggested, potentially using a full drum kit as this would simply fill twenty or thirty seconds of exciting and eye catching material and another element. Luke also mentioned he wasn’t fond of including a painted speaker as he was worried it could look cheap and would only work with extreme high slow motion equipment, which we don’t have access to.

The second location has both peaks and valleys. For instance, Luke felt the new money, gangster aspects didn’t need to be that obvious, he explained we didn’t need to exaggerate the use of props surrounding her. However, he did like the idea she was dangerous and brave through the use of style and props. He voiced to achieve the rich green artistic walls; the art direction had to be highly attended to and well lit, potentially using wallpaper as he said there was a risk of the location falling tasteless or unfinished.

Positively, Luke liked the theatrical, soulful idea of the ribbon but he unsure how we were going to achieve it. My group and I explained we would complete several test shoots but he was concerned it didn’t relate or fit with our music video. He suggested it could count if we linked the use of colour in the smoke or speaker with the ribbon, but he thought it might clash.

To conclude, Luke appreciated the contrasting locations between the industrial, clear, warehouse look with peeling, grimy scenes. However, he felt we could include another location for the middle eight but its not completely necessary.
