Evaluation Question 4: Who would be the audience for your media product?

For my thriller, I understand the audience is one of the most important elements and therefore I have thoroughly thought about my target audience. For instance, the targeted audience is aimed at young adults ranging from the age of 15 to 25 as the film shows built up extreme, tense scenes of tension and frustration at times as well as aspects of action. I chose the age range to vary between 15 years and 25 years as these young adults can cope with inappropriate language barriers due to their spectrum of maturity and therefore will understand unpleasant scenes, such as including blood, uncomfortable death appearances and dangerous equipment, for instance guns.  However, I think male members will prefer our film as they will mostly enjoy unpleasant scenes and will prefer watching tense situations and inappropriate language compared to young women. Similarly, the protagonist is a young male adult, so men could easily relate themselves to him and naturally feel more engaged.
When choosing the target audience I asked myself a lot of relevant questions. For instance, I firstly considered where most my audience members viewing my thriller live, so they could understand situations and environments within our film more easily. For example, I chose my audience members to live in a  city rather then in the countryside as in our thriller it is shown to be quite a busy and rushed environment becoming a chaotic ambiance and seek automatic tense situations; our thriller also includes the use of modern technology. The opening sequence will play around with old and modern eras to confuse audience members as well as the actors to achieve views from many different perspectives. Therefore, in my opinion if audience members are surrounded by this environment on a daily basis, they will naturally connect to our thriller and automatically feel closer to the protagonist allowing more engagement with the whole movie as their knowledge and experience of living in the city will instantly be more beneficial.

I also considered hobbies and interests of my audience members, for example, our thriller appeals to the target audience of young adults as they still have a huge interest in watching films, especially action films and thrillers; therefore they will immediately feel more comfortable watching the genre they prefer and will feel a sense of immediate engagement. Similarly, as my target audience will be familiar with thrillers from previously having knowledge of them, they will subconsciously know more then they should. Young adults also have an excitement in playing video games and socialising with friends as they enjoy going out and having a good time whilst their still young. Based of research, I understand young adults still have many different ambitions and favorable jobs as young adults are constantly searching for better, improved jobs at their age. For instance, many young people have desirable dreams many enjoy fantasising over the idea of playing either a hero or a spy; therefore they will feel a connection with the main character in our film.

Education is relevant to remember as they fortunately have a wide, experienced knowledge on many different subjects that could stimulate some of their feelings and this could inspire them to research for higher ambitions. However, as they are only young, they wont be fully experienced in departments such as, jobs, so will mainly be influenced by their parents as they are surrounding by them. By these young adults being hugely influenced by their parents and their location, they are going to be well educated as they live in a city and are fortunate to receive a good education and gradually build a high salary following in their parent’s footsteps.

At this stage of my audiences lives, my target audience are surrounded by privileged items from their parents, such as living in a nice house in the city, and being given valuables for special occasions, some aren’t old enough to understand what to spend their money or how to spend it wisely; for example, some audience members still receive monthly payments of pocket money and incorrectly spend it because the wrong types of people are constantly surrounding them, for instance, their friends. Young adults start to have an understanding of incomes and start to show interest on their parent’s incomes as well as thinking about their own. Primarily, they will start to become more independent within their choices and responsibilities. They will still spend money on chosen luxury items, and therefore will be able to afford a ticket to watch our thriller movie.

Overall, young adults are also more suited to our film as they can take into account a lot more then a child could, however they will not hold as many responsibilities as an adult would. If a thriller is viewed as much as it costs to watch, this target audience wouldn’t mind spending money on watching it as they show a huge interest in thrillers naturally.
