Lesson with Luke

In our lesson today, we were taught by a successfully inspiring teacher, Luke. He introduced us to lots of relevant and crucial information about the industry and more. He also taught us tips on how to create strong and effective videos and warned us on 'do's and dont's'. Luke also advised us to view a site called ‘Radar Music Video’ to be inspired and drive our ideas forward as it unfolds, new, unknown and talented artist’s videos. For instance, I noted down a few important elements to remember:

  •  Luke primarily advised us to not do a mainstream song as previously obscure, original songs have worked better in the past, so it doesn’t not repetitive and no risk of copying.
  •   He also quickly explained, it is most effective to follow a performance-based video, as firstly it’s easier to establish an image of who the artist and band are and in editing is easier to weave and juggle the video together. I understood the crucial need to film a whole take of a performance-based video, as it can be use as a safety net. He also made it clear that music videos including three elements were most successful and engaging.
  •  I also learnt, when ones producing their ideas or concepts further, it can be mostly effective to start with ancillary products, such as the website.
  • Luke also voiced, songs including lyrics are usually easier to work with and more effective. Similarly, he explained lip-syncing is very different to performance-based videos.
  • Lastly, Luke reminded us we only have about four hours on shoot day, not including set up and informed us we only have 14 weeks until our portfolio is completed, so therefore we need to use our time wisely.
