Post-Production: Photoshoot

In order for our products to be completed, we had to arrange a date to complete a photoshoot of our main girl, Juli. Fortunately, Juli agreed to the further shoot four our ancillary products, such as for the CD Digipak and website. Therefore, Fran and I captured many different shots, both of Juli in the studio and oppositely of backgrounding images, such as the recording studio, and further suitable equipment. In addition to this, Fran finalised the images by editing the colour and re-correcting close detail, using the software Photoshop.

The shoot went considerably well and everything went according to plan. It was also a huge benefit as Fran and myself were very effectively as a team. We wanted to capture images which would constructively and efficiently connected and fitted with our CD Digipak and website. For instance, we primarily caught the essence of our main cast member, Juli by placing her in the studio amongst a subtle, discrete and plain black background. For example, we wanted the background to be basic and simple and therefore we located a flowing black sheet behind her to gain a further degree of sensitivity towards our subject and to similarly allow our main focus, Juli to stand out.

We intentionally wanted to subtlety play with the style of Juli and therefore wanted her to be different to her strong and direct image executed in the music video, however we understood the crucially of allowing our products to flow and be connected, therefore we constantly reminded ourselves of her connotations and image, such as youthful, rebellious and aspects of spontaneity. Therefore, we altered her use of costume, positioning her in black velvet trousers and a black simple but detailed lace top. We also purposely added a shoe laced choker and directed her hair to be formed in two douche plaits. We allowed Juli to maintain her natural domain of beauty and therefore didn’t focus hugely on her makeup, only adding simplistic dark tones of lipstick and eyeliner. We deliberately lacked in makeup as we wanted our artist to show her natural and organic act, considering Negus’ theory.

In addition to this, we maintained the natural and subtle look by using a soft box as our main light and a beauty dish where necessary. We also combined the use of a blue and filter to gain a discrete correction of green to allow our images from our photoshoot to reflect and link with aspects of our music video.

Similarly, we also completed a photoshoot without Juli, just capturing the pure core of useful and suitable equipment, such as gear within the recording studio and appropriate images of instruments. We purposely captured these further shots to gain extra features and details and to allow our website to show a range of aspects and the collectively talented process of our artist. We didn’t use any further equipment for this shoot, as we wanted to use and embrace the natural light falling on our subjects.
