Developing Ideas - 1st

Pray (Empty Gun) - Bishop Briggs

1st element
My group and I agreeably decided the ‘girl gangster’ and the ‘playground’ were the most successful concepts and both held thoroughly thought detailed ideas. For example, the first idea is supported by the song - ‘Pray (Empty Gun)’ by Bishop Briggs. Collectively, my group and I feel this concept is our strongest and most driven. Therefore, the music video includes three different. engaging and contrasting elements. For instance, the primary element covers the first verse and chorus. It is located in an empty, dark and clear room, potentially in the studio. The room will be enclosed by black walls and a black floor and will steadily be filled with smoke and blue and pink coloured lights will gradually grow throughout this first element. The setting will consistently be basic and simple as my group and I feel simple can be most effective at times. We similarly recognised we didn't want the set to immediately distract viewers from other movements or concepts happening. Alongside the set, we wanted to balance it with a uncomplicated girl lip syncing the words directly towards the camera. The girl will be placed slightly in front of the smoke and lights, so we can clearly see her. However, we felt the girl alone could be tiresome and dull for the eye, so therefore we wanted to incorporate two dancers behind her. We have thoroughly discussed and thought through specific dancing we wish for. For instance, the style of commercial, modern hip hop will play a big role in the dance. Videos, such as 'Matt Steffanina' and 'Wildabeest' have throughly inspired me.

We intend to have two male individuals dancing, instead of using a mainstream concept of boy and girl. The male dancers will wear alternative grey clothes maintain the basic style and to differentiate themselves from the lights and smoke. Similarly, the main girl lip syncing will wear all black, maybe a dress and black lipstick implying an alternative fashionable look.

2nd element
For a creatively visualised video, my group and I understand we need to include another element. For instance, the second element covers the second verse and the second chorus. We intend to have the same female singer in a different location. For instance, in an old, empty, green room but with no furniture in, instead the singer filling the room with herself central bathing in a bed of money. Weapons will also surround her, we wanted to include this to show contrasting elements and locations but also to represent the gangster and grime aspects of the song. In this scene, the artist will be postponed in a black meshed dress or top with a black underwear beneath and also wearing fish net skinny tights. She could potentially wear a green jacket or green shoes to echo the colours surrounding her. Alongside her outfit, her hair will be braided and she will wear a gold grill covering her teeth. To enhance the gold aspects, we intend for the solo artist to fill her fingers and neck with gold accessories, such as rings and necklaces. The girl will perform confidently, following aspects of a bold personality and strong attitude, this will show further variance from the first element as well as the colours and movement.

During the second element, we wanted to use a further, confident and bold gesture or movement. For instance, from completing research from the clip ‘Santigold - L. E. S Artistes’, we were inspired and therefore want the artist to grab a weapon and pierce her stomach, allowing painful strings of blood, using a ribbon connoting blood. We feel this will be most successful and effective when the song builds to its climax.

Finally, our last element we wish to include and feel will be successfully communicated will also be located in the studio but in a different area of the space. The area will be filled with a girl drummer and maybe flour or water will bounce of the drums as she plays or alternatively place paint on a speaker and allow it to spring of in slow motion to the beat. We wanted to use a girl, as we wanted to subvert to the stereotypical male drummer.

After completing a lesson with my new group, I am feeling more confident and relieved our group our going to work well together, and all listen to each other’s suggestions and ideas, as echoed today.
