Post-Production: Creating a Logo

From understanding as a group what needs to be altered on the website, we collectively decided to create a logo for SIOUX. For instance, I began drawing and noting a few possible ideas for our logo and after Harvey began recreating them using the software Photoshop. For instance, I began sketching logos resembling a clear outline of youth, rebellion and spontaneity. I decided to stick within the colour scheme of blacks, greys, browns and weaving greens to show a complete link between all three products.

Harvey then started the process by writing down out artist’s name in different fonts, however we mostly appreciate the font ‘Futura.’ We started with the choosing the font as we understand the crucial aspects of using and consisting the same font throughout all three products. Similarly, the font ‘Futura’ is reasonably well known so will be noticed immediately and will similarly be accessed on any other software’s we are using to create our products.

We then gathered all our ideas together as a group and felt it was right to still include the use of snakes into our logo and our products, even though not all members of the focus group were fond of this, but we felt it was right to incorporate snakes within the name of our artist. Due to this, Harvey began researching some free online snake samples in which we could use. We struggled to find a snake which was suitable but after some time we saved a red snake template. From this, we all agreed to allow Harvey to alter the colour on Photoshop to fit within our star image and products. After having the correct accessory of the snake and the correct font, all was left was to play around with it until we were happy with our designed logo. For instance, Harvey started by placing the snake above the text, however I suggested it should be further engaged within the text and not so separate. Due to this, Harvey felt the text was too simplistic so he doubled the text layer and painted the writing the same colour as details of the snake to create a complete reverse shadow. We were all pleased with this, however we still agreed something wasn’t right. Therefore, we reviewed my original drawings again and decided to weave the snake between the letters of the name SIOUX, as I had previously drawn. This was a very beneficial decision as we were all pleased and happy with the final resulted logo for our artist, SIOUX.

From this, my motivation for my ideas towards the website is considerably and increasingly growing and therefore I will use this logo as the focal point of the website to gain recognition for our artist and for her fans.

Final result for our logo.
